Jon Houser was born in Surrey and relocated to Pembrokeshire in the early 1970s. He studied at the Carmarthen College of Art in the 1990s and now works as a professional painter near Tenby.
Jon Houser worked for many years painting directly on location, copying what he witnessed. This period he regards as his painting apprenticeship, giving him his tools as a painter. He still works on location, gathering information with sketches and notes, but now uses this material to feed into his studio work. These studio paintings become Jons interpretation of what he has witnessed, turning them into atmospheric moods and dream- like visions using colour and tone.
Painters that have inspired Jon, include JMW Turner, John Constable and Fred Cuming RA.
